Konepaja project gains pace
Konepaja Project Helsinki (redevelopment of a historic train factory into a multifunctional space) is in full swing.
The building is historic, protected by the Department of Monument Protection. A great number of technical issues arise and their solution affects both the coordination and the budget
Thus, in order to renovate historic stained-glass windows, it was required to offer three technological options of replacement. Basically, to make these works in three variants on a small glazing area and obtain the approval of the authorities.
Partial demolition of certain structures has been started by the Finnish company Delete. General contractor has been selected and the actual reconstruction works will begin in January.
The project is in huge demand. Almost all the areas (26,000m2) are already rented out or under letters of intent. The Corona Bar has already opened in the temporary area, and will move to the next section after the reconstruction. 2000 m2 has been rented by the Finnish National Theatre. They are not willing to wait for a complete reconstruction, and already give performances on the pieces of the area at weekends. A rock concert venue has started operating. Pop up events of various kinds are regularly held at weekends.
